GIS Consultant

Our growing Advisory Digital Services (ADS) team in Dublin is seeking to recruit a GIS Consultant to join our group of geospatial professionals, software developers, product managers, user experience designers and digital consultants within Arup. We use our collective talents to incubate and deliver technology-led solutions to clients, and in doing so help transform the way that cities, buildings and physical networks are planned and delivered.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience and a solid understanding in resolving challenges of GIS and data delivery, remote sensing, field data collection and reporting/analytics on projects of all scales, with particular importance on long-term sustainable solutions. All our GIS work is in support of Arup’s global strategy for a Better World.

The Dublin team is part of the Europe Digital Services Portfolio, and regular collaboration with the greater regional team is part of this role. This will provide additional opportunities for the successful candidate to contribute to work on exciting projects and research across the Europe region.


The Role

Working as part of a rapidly growing team in Dublin in our Geospatial Centre of Excellence, you will be leading and/or delivering technical GIS work related to environmental, planning and infrastructure aspects of local, national and international projects. You will work as part of a diverse, digitally minded team on projects of various types and scales, regularly cross-collaborating with other multi-disciplinary Arup teams to help shape a better world.

We are seeking an experienced Geospatial professional with broad experience in the application of geospatial solutions across a range of sectors. The successful candidate will fill a critical role on our team of digital practitioners and engage with our subject matter experts and clients in transport, cities, water, energy and science, industry, and technology to help design efficient and automated workflows. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, an excellent problem solver and a continual learner who is adept at identifying, evaluating and adapting new technologies and platforms. Ideally the candidate would also be adept at presenting and explaining /demystifying complex digital solutions to audiences with various levels of digital knowledge.


Your responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate regularly with other geospatial professionals in the Europe region to bring our clients the best digital solutions to our projects every day.
  • Assist with the management and coordination of project resourcing for geospatial tasks and ongoing support requirements of geospatial staff in the Europe region.
  • Data management, visualisation, spatial analysis, automation/scripting of spatial tasks, web development, and other GIS-linked technical tasks on projects.
  • Seek out and identify opportunities to leverage geospatial and related technologies to analyse datasets, produce visuals, and empower Arup and its clients make better decisions.
  • Collaborate and support the Digital Service Portfolio, service and discipline leadership team and Skills Networks on relationship building, identifying opportunities, supporting promotional activities, and connecting staff across other domains and markets.
  • Maintain an environment that promotes quality and excellence and supports all members in connecting with opportunities, supporting their professional development.
  • Be responsible for Geospatial work and give feedback and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Instigate feedback from peers and experts to ensure a consistent, high-level of quality on project deliverables.
  • Use task management tools and techniques to support and coordinate the completion of project tasks and their on-time delivery.
  • Assist project leadership in the identification and management of scope creep on projects.
  • Ensure timely and professional project correspondence and communications within project teams and between project members.
  • Technical memo / report writing, documentation, presentations, and client engagement with appropriate support from the team and project leadership.
  • Identify and connect geospatial staff with opportunities to support their professional development goals.

Your Education/Profile

Required:

  • Master’s Degree or Advanced Certificate / Diploma in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Software Development, Engineering, Information Technology or similar digital discipline.
  • Four (4) or more years’ work experience in the practical application of GIS and geospatial technologies and methods.
  • Experience in supporting the development of commercial proposals for geospatial consulting work.
  • Advanced knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS desktop 10.3+ and extensions; Web GIS, ArcGIS Online, Portal, Spatial ETL applications.
  • Experience in automating processes using Python & ArcPy and in producing GIS workflows.
  • Knowledge of databases and GIS systems integration (MS SQL Server, Postgres, PostGIS, ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE); Data management and standards knowledge and experience.
  • Experience in detailed user requirements gathering and translation / mapping of requirements to digital solutions development pathways and functionalities.
  • Strong communications skills, including ability to write and present with consideration of the interests and technical competency of a specific audience.

  • Experience in data interoperability, data engineering, data science, automation, or software development.
